Bert lead the Ministry of Forests on a project to improve its Information Management Product Catalogue through the development of the Business Information Centre web pages which provide access to the suite of Information Management products and information relating to the Ministry’s business, systems and databases.

Bert established a catalogue of FRBC funded inventories for the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks. The purpose of this catalogue is to record what data has been collected under FRBC funding within the Ministry and to identify what data standards or methods were used in the collection of these inventories.

Bert’s experience in geographic information systems planning led to his involvement in the Spatial Data Management Task Force for the Information and Technology Access Office. Bert provided support and facilitation to the Task Force and guidance in the development of the report on spatial data management in government. The report assessed the current spatial data management capability and made recommendations on directions for spatial data management, access, and interchange.

Bert conducted a project to review business processes surrounding the management of cadastral and administrative boundaries for the Ministry of Forests. The project provided options and recommendations for resolution of key business issues relating to the management and distribution of cadastral and administrative boundary data.

As Project Manager and Lead Architect, Bert was responsible for development of a Logical Data Model for the Ministry of Forests’ Inventory Program using the Information Engineering Facility. This strategic model was the first step in a series of projects targeted at changing the fundamental structure of the data and associated business processes within the Inventory Program. It redefined the attribute data to be collected and maintained by the Inventory Program to enable the Program to be more responsive to the changing information requirements of its clients. The model was designed to provide the opportunity to use Geographic Information Systems as a means of accessing a related central repository of attribute data.

As Project Manager and Lead Consultant for a Data Model Rationalization Project, Bert provided his data modeling expertise and project management skills to deliver a consolidated model of the Province’s natural resource inventories to the Resource Inventory Committee. This was a challenging assignment and required extensive coordination skills. Bert managed the project very effectively and delivered it on time and on budget, to the satisfaction of the client.
